Manage Your Sign-In Methods

Your sign-in methods are managed on your Microsoft Security info page. Use it to see which methods you have, choose a backup method, and remove methods you no longer use, such as an old phone.

Open your Security info page

Go to LUC.edu/mfapreferences and sign in with your UVID, password, and Microsoft Authenticator.

What you’ll see

Your methods are listed on the page:

Manage Methods 1 - Security Info

  • Password: your Loyola password. Select Change to update it.
  • Microsoft Authenticator: sign-in requests and one-time codes on your phone. The phone’s name is shown.
  • Passkey (Device bound): your passkey in Microsoft Authenticator, named for the phone it is on (for example, Authenticator - iOS).

Which method Microsoft uses

The line "You’re using the most advisable sign-in method where it applies" means Microsoft automatically uses your most secure method, usually your passkey. You don’t need to choose it.

The line underneath shows the method used when that one isn’t available. This is the only method you choose yourself.

Change your backup method

Select the small Change link at the end of that line (not the Change link next to Password).

Manage Methods 2 - Change Default

Choose a method from the list, then select Confirm:

Manage Methods 3 - Change Default List

  • App based authentication - notification: approve a sign-in request in Authenticator. Recommended.
  • App based authentication or hardware token - code: type the six-digit code shown in Authenticator. Useful when your phone has no internet connection.

Add a sign-in method

Select + Add sign-in method. For step-by-step instructions, see MFA Detailed Instructions.

Remove a sign-in method

Select Delete next to the method you want to remove, for example a passkey or Authenticator entry from a phone you no longer use. You will be asked to confirm:

Manage Methods 4 - Delete Passkey

Deleting a passkey here only removes it from your Loyola account. The passkey may still appear in the Authenticator app on that phone. You can remove it there as well.

Make sure you still have at least one working method before deleting another.

Lost your phone?

If you lose your phone, please contact the ITS Service Desk for support.

To protect your account right away, select Sign out everywhere at the bottom of the Security info page. This signs your account out of every device and browser, including the one you’re using.

Manage Methods 5 - Sign Out

It can take up to an hour to take effect everywhere.
